Viral Job Posts in India: The Stories and What Was True

By Influish Editorial Team · Published · Last updated

Short answer

Of the viral Indian job stories we checked, the posts themselves were mostly real — but none should be treated as an open vacancy today. Monk Entertainment’s 2025 “doomscroller” and Wakefit’s sleep internships are historic; the 2026 Influish “doomscroller” post is real but its status is undisclosed; and one infamous “₹10 internship” was disowned by the company it named. Last checked 6 November 2026.

How did we choose and check these stories?

We included a story only if we could open at least one credible, linkable report of it ourselves. For each, we recorded the earliest report date we could confirm, what was claimed, what we could and couldn’t verify, and a separate status for the opportunity. Stories we saw circulating but could not load or confirm are listed at the end as unverified, with no details taken from them. The method is the same one we teach in how to verify a viral job post.

1. Influish’s paid ‘doomscroller’ (Udaipur, November 2026)

Verified: widely reportedVacancy status unknown
Reported
5 November 2026; video reportedly posted 4 November 2026
Sources
India Today (India Today), Asianet Newsable (Asianet Newsable), Dainik Bhaskar Digital (Dainik Bhaskar Digital (English)) and six others listed below
Claimed
Influish, described as based in Udaipur, Rajasthan, wanted a paid ‘doomscroller’ to watch Instagram Reels, spot trends and report what was going viral. Interested people were to comment ‘Hi’; Udaipur-based candidates would get a link by DM; a hiring form is linked from the @gangsofstartup Instagram bio.
Verified
Nine news reports loaded and agree on the core facts. influish.com is live and names Sankalp Nag as founder and CEO, but did not mention ‘doomscroller’ when we checked. The company said more than 11,000 people requested the form — a company-reported figure.
Not known
Salary, deadline, number of openings, eligibility, hours, remote or on-site, final employment type, and whether applications are still open — not disclosed in any report we verified (as of 6 November 2026).
Status
Real story; not listed here as an active vacancy.

2. Monk Entertainment’s ‘doomscroller’ (Mumbai, August 2025)

VerifiedHistoric · not active
Reported
25 August 2025 (Storyboard18); Gulf News page last updated 26 August 2025
Claimed
Monk Entertainment (Monk-E), a Mumbai media and talent management firm, sought full-time ‘doomscrollers’ who spend six or more hours a day on Instagram and YouTube, with screenshots as proof, follow creator culture, are fluent in Hindi and English, and are comfortable with spreadsheets. Applications were by email.
Verified
Both reports loaded and agree on the requirements. Gulf News quotes co-founder and CEO Viraj Sheth calling the salary ‘very competitive’; no figure was published.
Status
A 2025 posting. We found no evidence it is open in November 2026. Do not apply the six-hour rule to the separate 2026 Influish story.

3. Wakefit’s ‘sleep internship’ (Bengaluru, 2019 onwards)

VerifiedHistoric seasons
Reported
28 November 2019 (launch, BestMediaInfo); 30 September 2024 (third-season winner, Business Today)
Claimed
Mattress brand Wakefit.co invited applicants to sleep nine hours a night for 100 nights at home, with a ₹1 lakh stipend, according to the 2019 report. Later seasons added a competition element.
Verified
Both reports loaded. Business Today reports a third-season ‘Sleep Champion’ and attributes cumulative applicant and payout figures to Wakefit itself — company claims, not independent counts.
Status
A real recurring brand programme, but the seasons we could verify are in the past. Check Wakefit’s own channels for any current season.

4. The ₹10-a-month internship (Mumbai, May 2025)

Story verifiedListing disowned by company
Reported
22 May 2025
Claimed
A backend developer internship listed on Naukri.com with a stipend of ‘₹10 per month’ drew 1,901 applications and a wave of memes.
Verified
The report loaded. According to it, the company named in the listing said it was a ‘crawled’ job posted by the job board’s bots rather than from its own employer account, and that it would be removed.
Status
Not an opportunity. The lesson: a listing on a job board is not proof that the named company posted it.

5. ‘Content Head’ for ₹5,000–15,000 a month (April 2026)

Story verifiedEmployer unnamedHistoric
Reported
27 April 2026
Claimed
A startup listing, first circulated in a founders’ WhatsApp group and shared on X by Ravi Handa, offered ₹5,000–15,000 a month plus ESOPs for a full-time remote role managing content across four social accounts.
Verified
The report loaded. The company is not named, so the employer cannot be checked.
Status
Viral as a debate about pay, not as a vacancy. Not active.

Which stories could we not verify?

We include these only so you know we looked. No details are taken from them, and they should not be shared as fact.

Unverified

A “Social Trends Analyst” doomscroller listing at Dropz — appears in search results as a foundit job-board listing. The page returned an access error to our checker and we found no news coverage of it, so we cannot confirm its contents, date or status.

What patterns do these stories share?

  • The headline outruns the detail. Pay, deadlines and eligibility are frequently missing from the original post.
  • Stories outlive openings. Old posts keep circulating long after the role is filled or the season ends.
  • Similar stories blur together. Readers mix up the 2025 Monk-E and 2026 Influish requirements.
  • Platforms aren’t proof. The ₹10 internship shows a listing can appear under a company’s name without its involvement.
